The German Bundesliga soccer team SC Freiburg has a new home. In 2021, the Europa-Park Stadium opened after three years of construction. Axess provides smart software for stadium management and the access system.
Up to 34,700 fans have been providing a loud "12th man" in Freiburg since the eigth matchday of the 2021/22 season. The brand new Europa-Park Stadium is a massive upgrade to the previous venue, the aging Dreisamstadion (capacity: 24,000). For the new stadium, SC Freiburg also decided to plan a complete new access system. Axess delivered a customized solution for the Europa-Park Stadium.
The private cloud solution
The distribution of Freiburg tickets will be handled by the existing partner and ticket provider Reservix. Via a bidirectional interface, data on tickets sold will seamlessly arrive at the access system. Axess Smart Gates ensure that both SC Freiburg fans and away fans experience a fast and uncomplicated access at the entrance.
To make data exchange uncomplicated and secure, Axess installed a modern system with a private cloud. The "Data Centre Service" makes local servers obsolete and outsources the technology - and the associated server systems. The stadium doesn´t have to worry about this anymore. One other feature, that is standard at Axess, is guaranteeing a smoothless access: Even if the stadium internet connection should fail, the offline functionality of the system guarantees an undisturbed ticket check at the entrance. The system is updating itself as soon as it gets connection again.
Contactless fan experience
The latest feature turns the smartphone into a ticket. Thanks to compatibility with Apple VAS and Google Smart Tip, QR codes or barcodes can also be read contactlessly in addition to NFC wallets. Why did you choose Axess?
The decisive factor was Axess' comprehensive and logical solution concept. In particular, the technical developments of the last few years, the high degree of digitalisation and the associated user-friendliness convinced us.
How satisfied were you with the project execution?
We were very satisfied. For me personally, after the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne, this is the second major project I have carried out with Axess. Both times I was completely convinced by the quality and atmosphere of the cooperation. In my opinion, Axess has the quality to be present in time-critical project phases and to find adequate solutions that help the overall project.
