On June 10, 2026, Barcelona's iconic Sagrada Família became the setting for a landmark liturgical and commemorative event. Coinciding with the centenary of Antoni Gaudí's death, Pope Leo XIV celebrated a solemn Mass before blessing the newly completed Tower of Jesus Christ. At 172.5 meters, the structure makes the basilica the tallest religious building in the world.
Due to high demand and the limited capacity inside the basilica, around 4,000 attendees were able to participate in the ceremony, while another 4,000 people followed the event from designated outdoor areas equipped with large screens.
The papal visit represented one of the most important religious and cultural events of the year. Managing the flow of thousands of visitors in and around one of the world's most recognizable landmarks required a temporary access solution capable of combining efficiency, security, and operational flexibility.
To ensure efficient and safe admission, the organizers relied on Axess Solutions.
Thirty Axess PEDESTAL 600 units equipped with Axess SMART SCANNER 600 NFC were deployed to validate RFID and NFC tickets within seconds, allowing visitors to enter quickly and efficiently.
Thanks to their mobile pallets and long-lasting battery packs, the gates operated wirelessly, providing complete flexibility in positioning. Once the event had concluded, the systems could be removed quickly, maximizing available space and facilitating emergency exits.
To further support operations, 20 handheld devices were used for additional ticket validation.
The combination of high-speed ticket validation and mobile infrastructure helped ensure a seamless experience for the thousands of attendees who gathered to witness this historic occasion.
From cultural celebrations, festivals, concerts to large-scale temporary events, our solutions deliver secure and efficient access management wherever flexibility and reliability are essential.
