Leipziger Messe is a renowned trade fair center located in Leipzig, Germany, that has trusted Axess as a partner since 2005. The venue hosts a wide range of international events and fairs throughout the year, like the Leipziger Buchmesse (Leipzig Book Fair), one of the largest literary events in Europe, which drew an impressive attendance of 296,000 visitors.
Despite such high visitor volumes, entry and exit remain smooth and efficient thanks to the new access infrastructure provided by Axess.
As part of a multi-phase modernization project, the venue was equipped with state-of-the-art access solutions that significantly speed up entry through mobile tickets and digital wallets.
Among the installed systems are several AX500 Smart Gate NG units featuring Axess SMART SCANNER 600 NFC with IN & OUT sensors that optimize the check-in and check-out procedure. These sensors detect the direction of a guest’s approach and automatically adjust the turnstile rotation, switching between entry and exit modes within seconds. The gates are equipped with asymmetrical 2-arm turnstiles, providing easier access for guests carrying bags or small trolleys.
The gates can be easily reconfigured to manage visitor flow throughout the day. In the morning, they may operate exclusively for entry, switch to bidirectional mode later in the day, and be set for exit in the afternoon.
Special floor plates also allow the gates to be quickly removed or repositioned, making the access infrastructure highly adaptable to different event requirements.
To ensure maximum flexibility across the exhibition grounds, the access setup now includes a range of mobile solutions. TC27 handheld devices allow venue staff to perform on-the-spot ticket inspections, while AX500 Smart Gate NG - Mobile Pallet and WIFI units provide wireless operation throughout the venue. Equipped with a long-lasting battery pack and the Axess SMART SCANNER 600 NFC for barcode, QR code, and RFID/NFC ticket reading, these units combine mobility with reliable ticket verification. Their modern turnstiles ensure smooth crowd flow at all times.
In addition, several AX500 Smart Post NG units on mobile wheeled stands were installed and fitted with the Axess BADGE BOX 600 for barrier-free access. Visitors simply scan their ticket at the scanner, and the Axess BADGE BOX 600 instantly prints a personalized badge.
“We are pleased about the successful collaboration with Axess, which is further modernizing our admission process," highlights Christoph Weidemann, Head of Digital Business Models | Visitor Services at Leipziger Messe GmbH.
With high visitor volumes and a wide variety of events, Leipziger Messe requires flexible and efficient access solutions. The implementation of Axess technologies – including fixed and mobile gates, smart scanners, and handheld devices – ensures smooth visitor flow, reliable ticket validation, and adaptability to different event formats.
This successful collaboration reflects a shared focus on innovation, operational excellence, and delivering a seamless experience for every visitor.
